Your Community Foundation » Annual Report

Letter from the President and Executive Director

It has been said that anyone who plants a tree provides a kindness for many generations. It is the same with our donors and friends. Your kind and generous gifts to the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin keep it growing and keep it strong. In turn, we are able to fund programs and projects that make our communities the gems of north central Wisconsin today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.

Nurturing and sharing your gifts
You invest in your community through the Foundation because you are confident in our ability to manage your gifts wisely and to use them to award grants that reflect your philanthropic goals. Confidence in the Foundation from all segments of the community remains stellar. We are pleased to announce that the H.J. Hagge, Braun Woodlands, and John & Mary Hartwig Foundations have followed the lead of the Henry & Gladys Phillips Foundation and many other donors who trust us to be stewards of their legacies.

In 2010, through prudent fiscal responsibility and management, the Community Foundation:
• Awarded grants of $2.3 million, bringing total grants awarded since our inception in 1987 to $49 million!
• Achieved investment earnings of 13.5%.
• Established 16 new funds.
• Increased assets by nearly $7 million.
• Administered more than 300 funds and assets totaling more than $35 million.

Joining our Society of Founders
Donors often tell us that they enjoy giving back to the community that has contributed so much to their quality of life. An exciting way to do that is to become a member of our Society of Founders. The Society recognizes, for all posterity, donors who contribute $10,000 or more to our Wausau • Marathon County Fund. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is open until our 25th anniversary on January 22, 2012.

Envisioning the year ahead
As we reflect on the many ways you have helped us enhance our community in 2010, we eagerly anticipate all we can accomplish in 2011. Together, we can grow stronger, reach farther, and do more to create and support new opportunities that make this an extraordinary place to live.
Sincerely,

Keith A. Kocourek
