The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin administers several different types of funds designed to meet the various needs of its donors. The variety of fund options allows donors to pool resources toward many diverse philanthropic interests through the strength and stability of an endowment.

The Community Foundation’s professional staff is available to work with you and your professional advisor to design a charitable giving plan that meets your philanthropic goals. Donations large or small are accepted to any fund at any time, providing the donor with the greatest tax advantages allowed by law.

Unrestricted Funds such as the Wausau•Marathon County Fund, allow the Community Foundation’s Board of Directors its greatest flexibility in making grants to the community. Your gift will address ever-changing needs – including future needs that often cannot be anticipated at the time your gift is made. The flexibility of your unrestricted gift enables your Community Foundation’s program experts to respond to the community’s needs – today and into the future.

Donor Advised Funds allow the donor to be actively involved in the grant making process by recommending charitable organizations to receive grants from the fund established in their name. Individuals, families, businesses, and private foundations can all benefit from the convenience of utilizing donor advised funds as the means of achieving their philanthropic goals.

Restricted Funds allow the donor to direct their gift to a specific charitable organization or purpose. Nonprofit organizations can use a Restricted Fund to build their endowment and enhance their ability to accept gifts of any size and from various sources.

Scholarship Funds can be established as a means to honor or memorialize a special person, to honor a specific scholastic institution, or to support a particular field of study. You determine the criteria students must meet to receive the scholarship. The Community Foundation takes care of all the administrative details and awards scholarships in perpetuity to deserving students from preschool to postgraduate.

Field of Interest Funds allow you to address needs in an area of community life such as the arts, elderly care, at-risk youth, or resource preservation that is important to you. You identify your personal interest area when establishing your fund and the Community Foundation awards grants to community organizations and programs that are making a difference in the area you select.

Project Funds are designed to benefit a specific community fundraising effort within a defined time period. Your gift will go directly to meeting the needs of that particular project.

John and Nancy Skoug enjoy the flexibility and convenience of their Donor Advised Fund at the Community Foundation. “Online giving just made it even easier to support the causes that are important to us,” they say. John, a former board member and Investment Committee Chair, knows well the Foundation’s careful investment policies and strict adherence to Standards and IRS regulations. “We are both confident of our charitable deductions by working through this certified community foundation to support the causes that are important to us.”
