More than $687 billion will move from one Wisconsin generation to the next by 2050, with $105 billion changing hands before 2010. Those are the findings from the Transfer of Wealth in Wisconsin study, commissioned by Wisconsin’s Certified Community Foundations through the Donors Forum of Wisconsin. The research, conducted by the Nebraska Community Foundation/Nebraska Center for Rural Entrepreneurship, provides a county-by-county analysis of the wealth transfer. Why study wealth transfer? Despite these terrific amenities, our state stands at a crossroads.
Government and business alone cannot address these issues. Charitable gifts can play a critical role. The Transfer of Wealth in Wisconsin report shows how charitable giving could help preserve our quality of life. For example, if just 5% of the wealth transfer in the first 10 years is set aside for charitable endowments, more than $9.30 million would be available for community betterment in Marathon, Lincoln, and Oneida counties, annually. The Community Planning Council of Marathon County has released,Focus 2005-2007 LIFE in Marathon County: Local Indicators for Excellence. The LIFE report provides a wide spectrum of information and data depicting the quality of life in Wausau and Marathon County. Its purpose is to provide a reference for the community to evaluate strengths and weaknesses and identify priority issues. The report, which is published every two years, serves as a tracking vehicle to show how the community has changed over time. The report’s sponsor, the Community Planning Council of Marathon County, hopes this report will not only serve as a handy reference but also as a starting point for community action.
